What is Everything?
Everything is a Windows search engine that finds files and folders by file name in real time. Unlike Windows' default search, Everything shows you all the files and folders on your computer from the start. Hence the name “Everything”! You can easily find the files and folders you want by entering search filters.
How long does it take to index files?
Because Everything only indexes file and folder names, building a database takes only seconds. For example, right after installing Windows 10, it takes about 1 second to index about 120,000 files. Even if you have a million files, it only takes about a minute!
Can I also search file contents?
Yes, you can! Everything can also search file contents using the content: search function. However, because the file contents are not indexed, searching the contents may be a bit slow.
