Oura Ring 4 Real Review: Why I Ditched My Smartwatch

Oura Ring 4 Real Review: Why I Ditched My Smartwatch

I’ve been wearing a smartwatch almost every day for the past few years. It was great for notifications and tracking my steps, but honestly, wearing a bulky screen on my wrist to bed was never comfortable. So, when the Oura Ring 4 was released, I decided to take the plunge and completely ditch my smartwatch.

After using it for a solid month, I want to share my honest experience. If you’re on the fence about whether a smart ring can actually replace a watch, hopefully, my story can help you decide.

The Design: Forget You’re Wearing Tech

The first thing that struck me about the Oura Ring 4 is just how much it feels like a regular piece of jewelry. The new design is incredibly sleek. Gone are the days when smart rings looked like tiny, clunky gadgets strapped to your finger.

  • Comfort First: The all-titanium build is super lightweight. The sensors on the inside are now completely flush, which means there are no little bumps pressing into your skin.
  • All-Day Wearability: Whether I was typing at my desk, lifting weights at the gym, or washing dishes, I honestly forgot I was wearing it most of the time.
  • Aesthetics: It blends in perfectly with my other rings. I no longer have a glowing screen distracting me during dinners or meetings.

Sleep Tracking: The Real Game Changer

If there’s one reason to get an Oura Ring, it’s the sleep tracking. Traditional smartwatches always felt too invasive for sleep, but the Oura Ring 4 is completely unobtrusive.

I’ve learned more about my sleep habits in the last month than I did in years of wearing a watch. The data is incredibly detailed yet easy to digest in the morning.

  • Accuracy: The ring tracks my heart rate, HRV (Heart Rate Variability), body temperature, and blood oxygen levels throughout the night. I found the sleep staging (deep, light, REM) to be spot on with how rested I actually felt.
  • Actionable Insights: Instead of just giving me a bunch of graphs, the app gives me a "Readiness Score." If my score is low because my heart rate stayed elevated, it gently suggests I take a rest day instead of pushing through a hard workout.

Battery Life: A Week Without Worrying

One of my biggest pet peeves with smartwatches is the constant anxiety of a dying battery. With the Oura Ring 4, that anxiety is completely gone.

  • Up to 8 Days: Depending on how much activity I track, I consistently get around a full week of battery life on a single charge.
  • Quick Top-Ups: The new charger is much nicer, and it charges fast. I usually just pop it on the charger while I’m taking a shower, and that’s enough to keep it going indefinitely.

Is It Right for You?

The Oura Ring 4 isn’t for everyone. If you need to see your text messages on your wrist, or you want to track your running pace in real-time without looking at your phone, you should stick to a smartwatch.

However, if you want holistic, long-term health tracking without the constant distractions of a screen, the Oura Ring 4 is simply phenomenal. It has completely changed how I look at my daily stress, sleep, and overall health.

It’s definitely an investment, but for me, gaining back my wrist space and actually understanding my sleep has been worth every penny.
