The Modern Sleep Epidemic: Why We Are All Exhausted

Be honest: how many hours of actual, high-quality sleep did you get last night? If you're like the vast majority of adults right now, the answer is probably "not enough."
We are living through a massive, unacknowledged epidemic of exhaustion. And no, drinking a third cup of coffee at 2 PM is not fixing the problem.
Why Are We So Tired?
It's easy to just blame our phones, but the reality is a perfect storm of modern lifestyle choices:
- Revenge Bedtime Procrastination: You work all day, come home, do chores, and suddenly it's 10 PM. You feel like you had no "me time," so you stay up until 1 AM scrolling TikTok or watching Netflix just to reclaim some control over your life.
- The Blue Light Trap: We are staring into glowing rectangles right up until the minute we close our eyes, tricking our brains into thinking it's still noon and suppressing melatonin.
- Hustle Culture: We've glorified grinding and sleeping 4 hours a night as a badge of honor, ignoring the fact that it literally destroys cognitive function and heart health.
I recently bought one of those fancy sleep trackers, and the data was horrifying. Even when I was in bed for 8 hours, my actual deep sleep was minimal because I was stressed and staring at a screen right before bed.
The fix isn't sexy. It's boring. It means putting the phone in another room at 9 PM and reading a physical book. It means accepting that you can't be productive 16 hours a day.
Have any of you actually managed to fix your sleep schedule, or are we all just collectively running on fumes?
